7/27/21 –  Beginning on Wednesday July 28th, the Friends of Crandall Public Library will host a series of, “Books on Carts in the Park” book sales Wednesdays this summer. The sales will be held July 28, August 11th and 25th, and September 8th from Noon to 4:00pm in City Park. There are no rain dates. Sales will include fiction and non-fiction for $1.00; and children’s, youth, and teen books four for $1.00. The Friends will also be accepting book donations only during the sales. Donated books must be bagged or boxed, and there is a limit of two bundles per household. They will not accept magazines, encyclopedias, textbooks, vinyl records, music cassettes, or VHS tapes. All books related to business/finance, computers, health, childcare, and education must be less than five years old.

8/3/21 –  On Wednesday August 4th, the Little Theater on the Farm at 27 Plum Road in Fort Edward proudly presents their 11th Annual Country and Bluegrass Jamboree, featuring 5 bands from Noon to 10pm.  Each band will play two sets throughout the day and evening. 8/13/21 – On Saturday August 28th, Cornell Co-operative Extension of Warren County will hold their 12th Annual Golf Tournament and Silent Auction at Cronin’s in Warrensburg, Proceeds will be used to help financially support Cornell Cooperative Extension’s educational programs.  Pay in advance by Friday August 13th, and the cost is only $95.00 per person. Cost per person on the day of the event is $100.00. 9/5/21 – The Chapman Historical Museum in Glens Falls announces the, “Chapman Challenge”, a series of “missions” that relate to the people, places, and events that have shaped the histories of Glens Falls and Queensbury.  Sites include the Crandall Monument, 1980 Olympics Commemorative Torch, Floyd Bennett Airfield (Queensbury School Campus), and Hovey Pond.  Visit 20 out of 35 mission locations to complete the challenge and earn an official button along with recognition on our website list of finishers.  This activity is great for families looking for something fun and engaging to do over the summer vacation or for anyone looking to get outside and do some local exploration with a dash of history.  Young or old, area resident or visitor, this quest is for all!  For guidelines and the list of missions go to the Chapman Museum website at www dotchapman museum dot org , or stop by the museum which is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10am to pm.

9/19/20 – The Chapman Historical Museum at 348 Glen Street in Glens Falls current exhibit is, “Now & Then, Photos of Glens Falls and Queensbury.”  The exhibit tells the stories of “what came before” and will run through September 25th. Museum hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10am to 4pm. Occupancy is limited.  Call 518-793-2826 to reserve a time. Same day reservations are available, and masks are required.

10/8/21 – St. Michael’s Rosary Altar Society will hold their  Annual Harvest Craft /Vendor Fair &     Bake Sale on Friday October 8th from 5pm to 8pm; and Saturday October 9th from 9am to 3pm in the Parish Hall in St. Michael’s Church 80 Saratoga Avenue/Route 9 in South Glens Falls.

TFN –  THE CLOTHING DONATION SHED OF BOY SCOUT TROOP 56 IN HUDSON FALLS IS OPEN AND LOCATED AT THE FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH AT 9 RIVER STREET.  THE TROOP ACCEPTS DONATIONS OF CLEAN AND WELL CARED FOR PRE-OWNED CLOTHING.  ACCEPTED ITEMS ARE CLOTHING, SHOES, BELTS, PURSES, BLANKETS, SHEETS, CURTAINS, PILLOWCASES, AND STUFFED ANIMALS.  THE TROOP RECEIVES FUNDING FOR THE DONATIONS AND HAS THE OPTION TO USE DONATIONS TO SERVE THE COMMUNITY AS WELL.

TFN – Cornell Cooperative Extension of Warren County offers a free, confidential Family Budget Coaching Program to community residents.  The one-on-one sessions are available to individuals and families who want to improve their financial literacy, set goals, create a savings plan, reduce debt and get a better handle on their finances.  The trained coaches will offer sessions either via zoom or in person in Glens Falls, Warrensburg and Johnsburg.  For more information on this program, please contact Roxanne Westcott at rmw 38 at cornell dot edu or call (518) 668-4881.

TFN – A new edition of, “Alarm from Box 33: A History of the Glens Falls Fire Department.” has been published and is available for purchase at the Chapman Museum in Glens Falls. The soft-cover book includes the entirety of the original volume published in 2003 on the 100th anniversary of the Glens Falls Fire Department, along with a new full-color section that covers the years 2003-2018. This new addendum features stories on major fires during that time period, new equipment and developments in the department, and new appointees to the GFFD.  Published by the Glens Falls Firefighting Heritage Association, the new edition is available for $23.95 through the Chapman Museum, 348 Glen Street in Glens Falls.   The book may be purchased online at www dot chapman museum dot org or by calling the museum at 518-793-2826.  Buyers can arrange for either shipping or local pick-up at the door. TFN – The American Red Cross operates a virtual Family Assistance Center to provide comfort and support, information and referrals for New York State families that have lost loved ones to the COVID-19 Coronavirus. The virtual Family Assistance Center will link families to crisis counselors who will provide emotional and spiritual support, as well as information and referrals to help them navigate the challenging process they might be facing as a result of their loved one’s death.  A team of 30 specially trained Red Cross Disaster Mental Health, Disaster Spiritual Care, and Health Services volunteers will be available to support families with their emotional and spiritual needs, as well as provide information and referrals to state and local agencies as well as other community organizations to help families meet their immediate needs. This may include challenges with moving their loved one’s body through systems that may be overwhelmed and have different process than normal; legal resources for estate, custody, immigration, or other issues related to the death of their family member; information on how to obtain travel services; and more. TFN – THE WASHINGTON COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE HAS A CHILD PASSENGER SAFETY SEAT FITTING STATION AT THEIR OFFICE IN FORT EDWARD.  THE PROGRAM ALLOWS PARENTS TO HAVE THEIR VEHICLES’ SEATS CHECKED OUT AND INSTALLED BY A CERTIFIED CPS TECHNICIAN AT THE OFFICE.  THE SERVICE IS FREE OF CHARGE TO COUNTY RESIDENTS WITH AVAILABLE APPOINTMENTS ON FRIDAYS.
