12/10/21 – On Sunday December 12th, GriefShares, “Surviving the Holidays” seminar will be held in the fellowship hall of the South Glens Falls United Methodist Church at 15 Maplewood Parkway at 1:30pm. The seminar is especially for people who are grieving a loved one’s death. In it you will learn: How to deal with many emotions you’ll face during the holidays. 12/19/21 –  On Sunday December 19th,the Upstate Model Railroaders will be holding an Open House from Noon to 3pm.  Come see 5 different running scale layouts. Members will also be on hand to answer questions, and there also be used trains and accessories for sale. 12/31/21 –  Applications are now being accepted for the Cornell Cooperative Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Training Program! The program starts in January 2022 and will be held virtually. The program is open to anyone who has an interest in expanding their gardening experience and knowledge. Learn how you can improve your own gardens and landscapes.  Learn scientifically-based gardening information in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere. It is a great way to learn even more by sharing information with fellow-Master Gardeners during the training, and following the training, by participating in community-based horticultural programs, educational projects, and helping people in the community with their gardening questions.  The Master Gardener Training Program is packed with information provided by the many scientists, educators, and garden experts associated with Cornell University. The course includes information about botany; entomology; organic gardening; soil health; use of fertilizers; plant diseases; good flower, fruit and vegetable growing practices; and wildlife management. 1/7/22 –  Through January 8th, North Country ARTS current exhibition, “Celebration” featuring pieces from renowned local artists is on display at their main gallery in Suite 120 at The Shirt Factory 71 Lawrence Street in Glens Falls.   The gallery is open to the public Thursday through Saturday from 12:30pm – 4:30pm.

1/31/22 –  Through January 31st, 2022, the Warren County Historical Society presents its current exhibit, “Toying with History,” by Cindy Whitman, at the Society’s headquarters at 50 Gurney Lane in Queensbury.  Using parts from Playmobil brand toy figures, small-scale junk store finds, and odd bits and sundries, her historical dioramas have appeared at many local libraries, museums, and special commemorative events. Featured displays include logging and lumbering, important figures of Black history, The Underground Railroad, local shirt and dress factories, women hikers and campers in the Adirondacks, Rogers Rangers, iron ore mining, scenes from “The Last of the Mohicans, and more.  The Historical Society is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9am to 4pm; Fridays from 10am to 4pm, and Saturdays from 11am to 2pm For more information call 518–743–0734 or visit their website at wcnyhs dot org.  COVID-19 protocols are followed. 

2/28/22 – The Chapman Historical Museum in Glens Falls current exhibit is entitled, “Now Showing.”  It presents an historical perspective on how the evolution of moving pictures impacted local communities.  From the early years of storefront nickelodeons, to lavish “movie palaces” and outdoor drive-ins, the exhibit discusses how hometown trends reflected national issues.  It examines the architecture, the technology, and the story of how popcorn saved theaters, and shares how cars and televisions influenced the direction of the industry.  The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10am to 4pm.  Admission is a suggested donation.  For more information call 518-793-2826 or visit their website at www dot chapman museum dot org.   The exhibit runs through March of 2022.

TFN –  THE CLOTHING DONATION SHED OF BOY SCOUT TROOP 56 IN HUDSON FALLS IS OPEN AND LOCATED AT THE FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH AT 9 RIVER STREET.  THE TROOP ACCEPTS DONATIONS OF CLEAN AND WELL CARED FOR PRE-OWNED CLOTHING.  ACCEPTED ITEMS ARE CLOTHING, SHOES, BELTS, PURSES, BLANKETS, SHEETS, CURTAINS, PILLOWCASES, AND STUFFED ANIMALS.  THE TROOP RECEIVES FUNDING FOR THE DONATIONS AND HAS THE OPTION TO USE DONATIONS TO SERVE THE COMMUNITY AS WELL.

TFN – Cornell Cooperative Extension of Warren County offers a free, confidential Family Budget Coaching Program to community residents.  The one-on-one sessions are available to individuals and families who want to improve their financial literacy, set goals, create a savings plan, reduce debt and get a better handle on their finances.  The trained coaches will offer sessions either via zoom or in person in Glens Falls, Warrensburg and Johnsburg.  For more information on this program, please contact Roxanne Westcott at rmw 38 at cornell dot edu or call (518) 668-4881.

TFN – The American Red Cross operates a virtual Family Assistance Center to provide comfort and support, information and referrals for New York State families that have lost loved ones to the COVID-19 Coronavirus. The virtual Family Assistance Center will link families to crisis counselors who will provide emotional and spiritual support, as well as information and referrals to help them navigate the challenging process they might be facing as a result of their loved one’s death.  A team of 30 specially trained Red Cross Disaster Mental Health, Disaster Spiritual Care, and Health Services volunteers will be available to support families with their emotional and spiritual needs, as well as provide information and referrals to state and local agencies as well as other community organizations to help families meet their immediate needs. This may include challenges with moving their loved one’s body through systems that may be overwhelmed and have different process than normal; legal resources for estate, custody, immigration, or other issues related to the death of their family member; information on how to obtain travel services; and more. TFN – THE WASHINGTON COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE HAS A CHILD PASSENGER SAFETY SEAT FITTING STATION AT THEIR OFFICE IN FORT EDWARD.  THE PROGRAM ALLOWS PARENTS TO HAVE THEIR VEHICLES’ SEATS CHECKED OUT AND INSTALLED BY A CERTIFIED CPS TECHNICIAN AT THE OFFICE.  THE SERVICE IS FREE OF CHARGE TO COUNTY RESIDENTS WITH AVAILABLE APPOINTMENTS ON FRIDAYS.
