9/24/21 – On Saturday and Sunday, September 25th and 26th, the Parks-Bentley Place will join other historical societies of Saratoga County in The Great Saratoga Museum Treasure Hunt. Hosted by the Saratoga County History Center, each of twelve museums involved will be open from 1 – 5pm each day. For $5.00, visitors can pick up a “passport” at the Parks-Bentley Place in South Glens Falls, the Brookside Museum in Ballston Spa, or the Waterford Historical Society in Waterford, then proceed to get their passports stamped when they discover the scavenger hunt item at each museum.  The Treasure Hunt was designed as an opportunity for individual and families to enjoy a fun weekend while discovering the many small museums in the county and finding the treasures that each museum holds.   Additional participating organizations include Charlton Historical Society; Grooms Tavern; Corinth Museum; Day Museum; Chatfield Museum of Local History; Frances Kinnear Museum of Local History; Halfmoon Historical Society; Grant Cottage State Historic Site; and the Wilton Heritage Museum.  Full details are available at the Brookside Museum website at www dot brookside museum dot org.

9/26/21 –  During the month of September, the Little Theater on the Farm in Fort Edward is holding a free books program to schools and organizations in Washington and Southern Warren Counties.  They have an overabundance of fantastic books and need to rotate the inventory. The farm is offering a day of free books to each organization during the month.  Each organization must call to reserve a date and be responsible for letting their members know what is their date.  For more information or to reserve a date call 518-747-3421 and hours are from 8am to 8pm. 

9/27/21 – The Warren County Historical Society is pleased to announce a new exhibit, “Toying with History,” curated by Cindy Whitman, beginning Monday September 27th through January  31st, 2022 at the Society’s headquarters, 50 Gurney Lane, Queensbury.   Ms. Whitman will also be the featured guest at the WCHS’s Fall Open House on Saturday, November 6th.  Using parts from Playmobil brand toy figures, small-scale junk store finds, and odd bits and sundries, her historical dioramas have appeared at local libraries, museums, and special commemorative events. Featured displays include logging and lumbering, important figures of Black history, Underground Railroad, local shirt and dress factories, women hikers and campers in the Adirondacks, Robert Rogers and his Rangers, iron ore mining, scenes from The Last of the Mohicans, and more.  The Historical Society is open to the public Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9am to 4pm, Fridays from 10am to 4pm, and Saturdays from 11am to 2pm.  Follow on Facebook and Twitter, or visit their website at wcnyhs dot org.  For more information call 518–743–0734. 9/30/21 –  Through September 30th, the World Awareness Children’s Museum is holding their “Adirondack Art Scavenger Hunt” program.  During this Queensbury based event, families will search at 8 different locations for art chosen from the museum’s collection. Participants will take a photo of each artwork and visit the museum to collect a prize. People who complete the scavenger hunt will receive a coupon book with local deals, a free pass back to the museum, and a limited edition WACM water bottle. 9/30/21 – Remote Area Medical- RAM® – a major nonprofit provider of pop-up clinics delivering free, quality dental, vision and medical care to underserved and uninsured individuals will be holding a clinic on Saturday October 2nd and Sunday the 3rd at the Washington County Fairgrounds in Greenwich.  To fulfill its goal of treating as many people as possible, RAM is still in need of licensed dental professionals and vision professionals to volunteer their time throughout the weekend, including Dentists, Dental hygienists, Optometrists, Ophthalmologists, Opticians, and Ophthalmic Techs.  All RAM services are free, and no ID is required. 10/9/21 –  The Hartford Fire Company  Auxiliary is holding their 2021Homemade Pumpkin Roll Sale. 10/13/21 –  Cornell Cooperative Extension offices in Warren and Washington Counties are collaborating to offer a Community Parenting Program via Zoom each Tuesday from October 19th through November 16th.  The 5-week series will focus on replacing ineffective or hurtful parenting styles with effective, child-friendly skills and will teach five basic parenting skills that highlight key parenting issues.   The skills are applicable for parents with children of every age.  The classes are free of charge but registration is required by October 13th.  To register, contact Cornell Cooperative Extension at 518-746-2560 and registrants must have an email address and internet connection to participate.

TFN –  THE CLOTHING DONATION SHED OF BOY SCOUT TROOP 56 IN HUDSON FALLS IS OPEN AND LOCATED AT THE FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH AT 9 RIVER STREET.  THE TROOP ACCEPTS DONATIONS OF CLEAN AND WELL CARED FOR PRE-OWNED CLOTHING.  ACCEPTED ITEMS ARE CLOTHING, SHOES, BELTS, PURSES, BLANKETS, SHEETS, CURTAINS, PILLOWCASES, AND STUFFED ANIMALS.  THE TROOP RECEIVES FUNDING FOR THE DONATIONS AND HAS THE OPTION TO USE DONATIONS TO SERVE THE COMMUNITY AS WELL.

TFN – An updated edition of, “Alarm from Box 33: A History of the Glens Falls Fire Department.” is available for purchase at the Chapman Museum in Glens Falls. The soft-cover book includes the entirety of the original volume published in 2003 on the 100th anniversary of the Glens Falls Fire Department, along with a new full-color section that covers the years 2003-2018. TFN – The American Red Cross operates a virtual Family Assistance Center to provide comfort and support, information and referrals for New York State families that have lost loved ones to the COVID-19 Coronavirus. The virtual Family Assistance Center will link families to crisis counselors who will provide emotional and spiritual support, as well as information and referrals to help them navigate the challenging process they might be facing as a result of their loved one’s death.  A team of 30 specially trained Red Cross Disaster Mental Health, Disaster Spiritual Care, and Health Services volunteers will be available to support families with their emotional and spiritual needs, as well as provide information and referrals to state and local agencies as well as other community organizations to help families meet their immediate needs. This may include challenges with moving their loved one’s body through systems that may be overwhelmed and have different process than normal; legal resources for estate, custody, immigration, or other issues related to the death of their family member; information on how to obtain travel services; and more. TFN – THE WASHINGTON COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE HAS A CHILD PASSENGER SAFETY SEAT FITTING STATION AT THEIR OFFICE IN FORT EDWARD.  THE PROGRAM ALLOWS PARENTS TO HAVE THEIR VEHICLES’ SEATS CHECKED OUT AND INSTALLED BY A CERTIFIED CPS TECHNICIAN AT THE OFFICE.  THE SERVICE IS FREE OF CHARGE TO COUNTY RESIDENTS WITH AVAILABLE APPOINTMENTS ON FRIDAYS.
